Connections With Students

Week one was a blur! 

My school operates on an eight-day rotation, but specials operate on a four-day rotation. In the first four days of classes, I saw EVERY STUDENT in grades K-4th. I am still working on names, but every class has its own personality for sure.

My favorite grade so far has been Kindergarten! They are so amazed by everything, and it is refreshing to see that excitement and exploration in the music room. Especially after being in high school and middle school band rooms where competition and accuracy are the main focus. Elementary students love music because music is fun!

On a one-on-one level, I have connected with a few students. One kindergartener was having a really hard first day, so I sat with him during music class. His goal for the week was to keep a calm body and stay in the classroom, but he was not expected to participate. By the end of the week, he actually picked up an instrument!

    That's crazy that you see every student from K-4 in just four days, so putting names with faces is definitely a lot to do. I love that you're enjoying the elementary music classroom and having fun with it, because if you have fun, so will the kids!

    It's a great feeling knowing how YOU can make a difference with just the little things you do for students. Sometimes it only takes a smile as they come in your room day after day. Keep up the good work!

Wellness

 I do not have much of a "wellness plan". I work all day at school, come back to campus and work in the cafeteria, then I work on lesson plans until I am too tired to write something coherent. I work every day except for Sunday, when I clean up around my apartment and work on more lesson plans. If only student teaching didn't cost $30,000 :)

First Blog Post!

My Love For Teaching What inspired you to be a teacher? I was inspired to be a teacher by my high school music director. The environment that she create in her classroom was inviting, and watching her teach made me realize that I wanted to teach as well.  My Story What legacy do you hope to leave as an educator?  I hope to be an inspiration to my own students, just like my music director was for me. Throughout my time as an educator, I want to show my students how to appreciate music and how to pass that appreciation on to others. My Mindset What actions and mindset will be needed during the unique setting of the 2025 school year? I believe that I will need to be patient, open-minded, and dedicated in order to succeed this year. There will be situations that I am unprepared for, and I will constantly be trying new things. I need to be patient with myself, open-minded with my surroundings, and dedicated to my learning.
